Istanbrew uses Google Analytics cookies to count visitors, and your browser’s storage to remember your settings. There are no advertising cookies.
Cookies and browser storage
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Local storage is a similar feature that keeps information in your browser, but it isn’t sent with every request. This page covers both, because we use both.
Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the guide: which pages are read, which features are used, and where people get stuck. Google sets these cookies:
- Tells one visitor from another with a random ID, so Google Analytics can count visitors rather than page loads.
- Keeps track of the current visit to this site.
Google Analytics doesn’t log or store IP addresses. We don’t use Google’s advertising features, and we don’t share analytics data with Google for advertising.
Settings kept in your browser
These items are saved in your browser’s local storage. They’re needed for the features you use, stay on your device, and are never used to track you:
- Light, dark or system appearance, if you choose one.
- The maps app you prefer for directions.
- Whether you read Istanbrew in English or the local language.
- The last few shops you opened, so they show under Recents. Never sent anywhere.
- A random identifier the map library uses to count map loads for billing.
What we don’t use
- No advertising or retargeting cookies.
- No social media tracking pixels.
- No cookies for fonts: the typeface is served from Istanbrew itself, not from Google Fonts.
How to control them
You can block or delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings. Most browsers also have a private mode that clears everything when you close the window.
To stop Google Analytics on every website, install Google’s opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). Blocking analytics cookies won’t change how the site works.
If you clear local storage, the site will forget your appearance, language, directions app and recent shops.
