Ralf Rüller left the fashion industry, moved from London to Berlin in 2008, and started roasting under The Barn brand in 2010 in the Scheunenviertel district. Custom-made Probat drum roasters, built to 1950s specifications with modern engines, anchor the operation. Cropster profiles every roast.
Crema Magazine named The Barn Roaster of the Year 2025, and it was the first German roastery to receive Best Specialty Coffee Roaster in Europe and Middle East. Thirteen cafés now operate in Germany (eleven Berlin, two Munich) alongside locations in London, Palma de Mallorca, South Korea, and Dubai, where the Al Khazzan Park café was the brand's first international outpost in 2021.
